To have a best user experience on the phone, the Hardware and the Software should be in a perfect sync.
In general, The hardware is a fixed component and it is not going to change. but the Operating system (software) which is running on top of hardware does.
When it comes to Apple iPhone, To make sure the best fit and finish or sync between the hardware and the software, The company develop both of hardware and the software under once single roof and all proprietary stuff.
That's the reason the end result of the product from Apple always makes the difference from others. We are getting the best user experience.
What about Google Android phone(s)?
Phones. Yeah.
First, What relief we got after the launch of Google android based phones.
Before Android, every manufacturer had their own tiny powerless operating system (software) which pushed the end user to have a bad user experience. Some few brands used a borrowed operating system to show something different.
At the time, some of the phones showed a top performance when buying and gradually slowed down when the phone got loaded with SMS, music, new softwares, antivirus, etc, etc...
Some of the phones has all the above with added worst user interface made it difficult to use.
I still remember, it was on year 2005, one of my friend holding a phone which was the best selling and the best phone in the market at that time. When he gave me the phone to experience it, i was not that impressed. It was running on the Symbian OS.
I found the Same OS in a low cost phone on the same brand as well as on the High priced high end model. That did not gave me a good impression, the moment i started exploring the phone it was proved. The phone has a improved hardware but not the software. The high-end phone was slow when accessing the SMS. They same way the low-end phone does.
After the Google Android birth, There was a big relief on the Operating system because of its Open source standards. Mobile phone manufacturers were able to give a unique user experience from the Operating system from well known Google. Users got the ability to use different mobile phone models with the same software skills because of the unique OS running on all devices. it become the end to learn new operating system (software) when moving to new phone brands.
Now, The cost.
When Apple making its iPhone 4S (16 GB) with rich, unique custom made hardware and software perfectly tailored to meet the end users need on the cost of 649 USD, why are we paying 799 USD for Samsung galaxy S2 which runs on a free Open source Google Android Operating system (software). At this point of time, Android does not have much feature like the one we have on Apple iOS5.
Finally, What to choose. The smart phone confusion. The confusion continues..
I totally made this article from a layman/consumer point of view. I respect both brands. But from the consumer point of view, Every penny spent on a product need to be calculated. Let's put everyone view and i really appreciate your pros and cons on this subject.
